There are so many harrowing allegations of rape and sexual violence in the piece that don't involve dogs to make the whole focus on the dogs as the "oh my god!" aspect of these crimes...weird.

"Israel during the First Intifada was a more innocent time."

This made me laugh.

Genuinely laugh, too.

Sort of, at both of us.

An Israeli from Israel, an American from America. Different, but the same.

I realized America was not a "good" country during the war in Iraq.

I also thought America was a simpler, better place before that.

You know what we have in common?

America and Israel were more civilized when we were children.

Because all the barbarism of our countries was hidden from us.

The only stories we were told were about how great and special we were.

And so there is this inclination to think, "My country turned evil, conveniently, right when I was old enough to read things on my own. To see what I wasn't being shown."

But of course not.

Israel has been evil since its founding; the very concept of Israel was evil, from first principles.

American evil didn't start with Iraq. The first or the second war.

It didn't start with Vietnam.

It didn't start with Japanese internment camps.

It didn't start with the Chinese exclusion act.

The United States is a genocidal imperialist war machine and Israel is a colonial genocidal ethnostate.

Both are evil.

Both have always been evil.

We just got old enough to see it.

We are now seeing 2 interesting stories unfold at once, however.

Israel is no longer sheepish about murdering Arabs, and the US is no longer "a defender of democracy" or defender of anything, besides the lunacy of a geriatric pedophile.

What does that mean?

It means the fate of the US and Israel is not going to be what it's been.

That might feel like an understatement, but it is very difficult to predict the future.

I do think the unchecked barbarism of both countries has a shelf life, however, and the world is waking up.

Regarding the NYT article, it was a convenient thing for Israelis to cling to.

"Sure, we rape and murder Palestinians, but we aren't training DOGS to do it. We do it ourselves!"

-- This is the great zionist moral victory, apparently.

And should the claims be substantiated, the moral victory will become, "We only SOMETIMES use rape dogs. Mostly we rape them ourselves!"

But if anyone is expecting a floor to this barbarism, I'm not seeing what you're seeing.
